Welcome! My name is Jennifer Maier. This will be my fifth year teaching at EverGreen Academy. I taught first grade for three years and moved up to second grade last year!
For those who don’t already know me, I graduated from UW Parkside with a Communication Degree and Teaching License for grades 1-8. After college I began subbing full time for Kenosha Unified, Racine Unified, and Yorkville School District. I was beyond lucky to have come across EverGreen during my job search. The family atmosphere and small class sizes made leaving my own little family to start my career a breeze!
I am married and have three amazing little girls, Ellie (4), Chloe (2) and Lily (4 months). They have two corgi puppy brothers, Max and Teddy. I love spending time with my family. When I do have some down time….. I enjoy crafting, walking the aisles at Target looking for a good deal, or browsing through rummage sales! I love doing projects and incorporating them into the classroom any way I can. Pinterest is utilized on a weekly basis in second grade. We love to create Pinterest successes (and have fun with the fails) at the end of the week for our Fun Friday project of the week.
I try to make my classroom as warm, inviting, and loving as I can. I hang student work up in the hallway, and rotate it out on a weekly basis to showcase how hard they are working. Along with utilizing our reading curriculum, we will practice the Daily 3 (modified Daily 5 to target skills more effectively) and read 4 novels throughout the year. These novels include: The Box Car Children, Charlotte’s Web, Stuart Little, and Pippy Longstocking.
I look forward to working with our other second grade teacher, Mrs. Spanke. It’s always a great day when you get to work along side one of your closest friends! We plan to make this school year as cohesive between the two classes as possible. We will be doing special projects/field trips together. We also have a wonderful Christmas around the world unit planned for the month of December, along with many STEM Science projects to go with the different themes throughout the year.
Communication is key … so look forward to seeing me pop out at car line, sending notes home, or texting through the class Remind App.
I look forward to yet another great year at EverGreen!
