Miss Amy Macemon

Welcome to EverGreen Academy! I’m Ms. Macemon and am one of the 4th grade teachers here! I was born and raised in Racine and consider myself lucky to call it home. I graduated magna cum laude from Carthage College in 2012 with a Liberal Arts Degree in Environmental Science with a focus in Conservation and Ecology. Before Carthage, I attended Horlick High School and St. Rita's Elementary.

For the seven years before my time at Evergreen, I worked for UW-Madison, Division of Extension FoodWIse as a nutrition educator, working with people of all-ages, who were of limited income, in Racine and Kenosha. I worked as a Healthy Community Coordinator, working to promote policy, system, and environmental change to make the healthy choice, the easy choice for all community members, for the last year and a half in that position. The rest of my work history falls in line with either art or environmental community education, non-profit program management or sustainable & accessible food system development. 

I believe that all my professional and personal experiences have brought me to EverGreen! Teaching has always woven itself into my career and I consider myself a life-long learner. I look forward to helping to develop each student I work with, giving them the tools of a growth mindset to become preserving, curious, kind, and self-loving people!

My interests are quite varied! They include include many outdoor activities such as bird watching, plant identification, hiking, camping, and gardening! I enjoy roller skating and am on the Root River Roller Derby team in town. I enjoy dabbling in arts and crafts, from painting to creating epoxied jewelry to making butterfly mobiles. I am also a frugal girl at heart and love rummages and thrift shops but also enjoy a stop at Target from time to time. Also, I am an avid and adventurous eater and love to support local restaurants throughout the SE Wisconsin area, especially supper clubs and, of course, a classic Wisconsin fish fry! I also enjoy preparing nutritious and unique dishes at home.

I look forward to bringing my full self to the classroom each day and working with the students, parents, and staff at EverGreen Academy! Cheers to a great year!
